Rail First Asset Management’s Islington Workshop in South Australia recently completed the first 50 CQPY Wagons built to lease into the Australian market.

For the first time in over 10 years, wagon manufacture has returned to Islington making Rail First the only company currently producing intermodal wagons in Australia.

The 80 strong workforce at Islington is proud to see the return of wagon building as it has previously been an integral part of the 130-year history of the rail yards in South Australia stretching back to the late 1800’s when steam trains and rail cars were also made at the site.

The wagons are made from Australian made steel and with locally sourced parts and labour the CQPY is certified as an Australian Made Product and carries the Australian made Logo.

The CQPY wagons is approved and registered for use on the rail networks around Australia and are the first of 200 commissioned to be built over the next 12 months.
